Wah so long since I last blogged. I think this is my record in this blog... 15 days! So busy with stuffs. Don't even have time to blog after ponning so many lessons. I spent most of my free time sleeping away.

Rather busy with choir stuffs. After SOV, the junior Musico almost entirely takes over. I am rather relieved that most of the senior Musico has not left yet so they can still help us settle some of the things, especially when some of the SLs aren't around during the holidays.

The Exco recently took over too. Congrats to the 5 people who are in the committee! I am quite glad because most of them are who I wanted most in the committee. It shows that my vote and the choir members' votes are nearly unanimous. Sorry for the questions that I was shooting the nominees on the elections day because I really need to know who I want into the committee who will probably share the same way of thinking as me before casting my votes. Congrats to the Exco and hope that we work well together for the good of the choir.

I was also quite involved in Contract Bridge. Last Monday, on Vesak Day, I paired up with Hong Aik for this competition in Bishan CC. Got thrashed by all the ah ma and ah gong. We managed to top 2 boards but got bottom for 1 board. In the end we were ranked around half of all the pairs, after playing 24 boards. Not too bad for the first time. I think after this competition, my interest in Contract Bridge sorta rekindled. I gain more confidence playing against other people in a more competitive environment. I realised that my defending play needs to improve more. My declaring is still not say very good, perhaps I need to plan first and be prepared for any uneven breaks of cards. Lastly is my bidding skills. I think I gotta work more on the conventions first, maybe need to work with Hong Aik.

There was Strategic Games Club BBQ last Friday. Congratulations to Ryan, Jun Yuan, Hong Aik and Jun Ren for being President, Secretary, Bridge Head and Bridge Trainer! So pro I am the only one who never get any post haha. That's because I never apply for any. Choir is definitely going to take up most of my time and given my attendance for the bridge trainings (I think it's less than 10%), I'll give it a miss.

The most funny thing during the BBQ was that Jun Ren brought some really very huge signs from his cheerleading. I dunno what the signs are used for, because the words don't really make sense, but there was one sign which caught my attention. So I asked the VS group: If my partner bid 1 spades and I have no High Card Points, what should I do? Then I held up a sign which says:

PASS

It was so funny haha. I dunno why cheerleading needs that sign also.

I am glad the holidays are finally here. I hope I can actually spare some time to revise my work because I haven't really been paying attention during lectures, either sleeping in the LT or off to the Choir Room to sleep. I only know our class won the Geography quiz although the game was quite unfair. We managed to score all the points for the chapter on "rocks" because our class rocks! Then the lecturers said that our class cannot continue because we got too many points. We ended up a few hundred points behind the class with the most number of points until the last question where we placed our bet on everything that we had, and we got the answer correct haha.

Oh and there was GP. Mrs Ch'ng sent people out of the class again. I presented my newspaper report which was on a Monday 6 weeks ago. Not that I couldn't help it, but because I prepared that article for her GP lesson a few weeks ago already. She only told me to present recently. So I started my presentation like this:
This is an article on Monday, and it talks about...

And almost everyone thought it was last Monday's article, except for a few people laughing at the back *coughs Ryan coughs*.

I had to check whether I need to apply visa for my Wales trip. So I called the UK Visa Application Centre and the conversation goes:

[Officer]: Good morning, UK Visa Application Centre.
[Me]: Hi, I am calling to check whether I need a visa to travel to Wales.
[Officer]: Wales? Where's that? Hold on ah...
[Me]: !!!

I thought I had pronounced something wrongly or called the wrong centre. Where's Wales? What a question to ask!

Wales is in around 5 weeks' time. From the looks of it, the standard seems to be quite ok. But being a part-time pessimist, maybe I am wrong.

Symphony of Voices 2008 was a success! Thanks to everyone who went there to support us :).

10 minutes before the performance and half the choir was stuck in the cargo lift because it got overloaded. Luckily we got rescued and got ready for performance on time.

Accidentally gave wrong starting notes for du2 shu1 lang2. A note that was totally off. Luckily I realised on time and quickly gave the correct notes on time. It so happened when my toes cramped. Stood barefooted that's why, had no shoes to grip my toes together.

I think I have totally conquered my stage fright. Not that I have one in the first place, but when I walked onto the stage I felt very relaxed. And the more I sang, the more enjoyable it became. I was not afraid to sing out loud like last time. I took the whole stage as though it was ours.

The performance itself was good. I could see the effort put in by the choir members. I am quite glad that the practices paid off. Despite the mistakes made by various sections, the overall performance was not bad. Perhaps it is really the wonders of the Esplanade Concert Hall that we sounded good.

Hmm unfortunately I did not feel much about the concert. Just another performance I guess. Tried to be emo and cry while singing the choir anthem but to no avail.

DID NOT pon school today. But pon Physics lecture and Phy/Math tutorials lah. I seriously did not think that the choir room was such a nice place to sleep in. At first when I went there during my break at 9am, I wanted to sleep for 15 minutes before going for lecture. But I got drifted into dreamland. Dreamt about stuffs that are mysterious, yet reflects upon my current life, in other words, I dreamt about my current life expressed in another perspective. Woke up at 10+, and decided to sleep until lecture is over so I can go tutorial. Haha but nah, slept until after the tutorials were over.

Ryan told me during CT session that I should not pon Geography lecture (11.35am). So heeding his advice, I went for the lecture. But in the end he himself and Jun Yuan went to some place to play chess. What the...

Btw it feels so good to thrash other people in tests. For example, I thrashed Cephas straight in the face for Chemistry lecture test (won by half mark out of 35). I also thrashed Ernest in the recent Chinese yan4 yu3 test by 1 mark out of 100. Total ownage!

Just kidding.

New compound discovered. Methyl orange. Methyl is a CH3- functional group. So kinda connected to all the citric acid and stuffs...

Sorry, one of the many lame things that Wei Liang and I would do in LT5 lectures. That was done on Wednesday's chemistry lecture. The lecturer knocked him out I guess, with that ever wonderful tone of voice made specially to induce sleepiness.

I have been GPP-ing the whole day. I don't actually know what I have done so far, but I spent 90% of the time thinking of how and what to change for the GPP draft. Then suddenly I will lose my train of thought and gotta retry. Work done = Force times Distance, also equals to Productivity times Time spent on productive work. If you exert a great force on a solid wall and the distance travelled by the wall is zero, there is no work done. Similarly, if I spent my whole time thinking away and not doing any work at all, work done is equivalent to zero. So much Physics here!

Having a special ability has its pros and cons. I won't talk about its advantages. But when people know that you have such an ability, they tend to expect more from you. And when you don't do it properly, perhaps accidentally, you get blamed. This thought suddenly rekindled when Abel was talking to me yesterday about having perfect pitch. Having perfect pitch isn't something that is worth boasting about. Not only because of the reason mentioned above, sometimes when you have perfect pitch, you tend to feel irritated when you hear music of a different key, or even a fraction lower/higher than the original. You tend to make the music go back to its original key and it can be quite frustrating sometimes. You just cannot stand the music in the wrong key.

On the other hand, having perfect pitch has helped me to stay in pitch most of the time. I think without this ability I cannot sing in tune. Damn!

Today is the luckiest day of my whole entire close-to-17 years of life I swear.

While walking to school I felt something drop onto my head. Something like a huge raindrop, but it was clearly not raining. I reached over to wipe it off my head, but that 'raindrop' was not transparent, but white.

Bird shit!

It's not as sticky as what most people will think it is. It is quite watery and it got off my hair easily, but not my hand. Quickly rushed to the toilet to scrub every part of my hair and hand. Wei Liang told me to buy 4D. I forgot to buy on my way back home.

SOV next Monday. Don't Give Up!

Yesterday was Sports Day. Too bad our class could not eat outside school for lunch. So in the end we called for pizzas to be delivered, and we ate outside the Performance Theatre.

The atmosphere in the afternoon was great! The sun was blazing hot but I did not perspire at all. This is because the (mainly) 4A people were in a classroom playing bridge. There were also a few playing soccer in the fully air-conditioned room. I think the temperature was around 20 degrees, totally shiok.

Hey but I went down to watch the cheerleading. I really salute the cheerleaders because they spent much time and effort trying to perfect their moves. In the end it seemed like it was the nervousness that brought some of them down. The pressure they had in them - to do well to win house points, not to disappoint their peers and seniors - was much for them to handle. Nonetheless, I am sure that they enjoyed themselves no matter what the outcome was, and bonded as a team, and that is the most important.

And the free Sportades! 1 thing I regret not doing is taking the whole carton of Sportades home. Only managed to take 1 half-drunk bottle home.

It's May already. That means less than 2 weeks to Symphony of Voices. Circle seats are still empty. For those who have not bought the tickets, please do consider going down to Esplanade on the 12th to support us. It's only $21 to hear a world class choir sing. And to VJchoir members, please work hard to sell your tickets. If you haven't sold your 10, try getting your friends to go. If you have sold the 10 you're supposed to sell, you should aim to sell more. Don't just stop at 10.

VJchoir, let's be more serious for practices from now on.
